Devoted to the valorization of plural forms of knowledge and cultural expression, we address questions of memory, vulnerability, and action through the work of contemporary diasporic researchers, writers, and artists. For our pilot issue, we take salutation as an act of visibility. We are interested in the greeting as a political, poetic, and intimate gesture: in what is at stake in greeting, in acknowledging, in appearing to another. The greeting as a gesture of resilience, of transmission, of recognition, or as a political practice.

We think of Atsaman as a space of observation and of making visible. A place where ideas, gestures, and images meet, where fragmented forms of knowledge and transmission can settle, circulate, and recompose. We bring together case studies, visual pieces, personal narratives, and gestures considered in their aesthetic and social dimensions.
